Each E-Inspire, we focus on giving you a quick and painless guide on any subject matter in athletics in eight easy-to-digest points.

Today we explain the who, what, when, where and why of grassroots newest and most edible sponsor: McCain.

Not Senator John McCain then?

Nooo. McCain – you know, the food company. Producers of frozen food items you might well have in your freezer including the very chunky, extremely tasty and rather healthy Rustic oven chips.

A chip off the old block?

Ok, enough with the chip jokes. McCain produce a range of frozen products including chips and other potato products. Their recently launched Rustic chip has less than 3% fat. That’s less fat than you’ll find on a distance runner but slightly more than Ally McBeal..

Number crunching

McCain’s support will provide funding to train and support over 150,000 competitors and supporters at local athletics clubs via the Young Athletes League and will assist 15,000 athletes to compete against their peers in the UKA McCain UK Challenge Series. That’s a whole lot of athletics

The challenge ahead

McCain – as a principal partner of UK Athletics will provide support to a wide range of our domestic competition structures including the entire Challenge series, Indoor City challenge, UK Challenge and UK Cross Challenge and the Young Athletes League.

When the chips are down…

Ok – back with the potato puns. One of the most popular areas McCain’s support will help is the Cross challenge series and will assist organisers by way of online entry and.. ahem… chip timing.

Sally Gunnell
Sally G - mother to growing boys and Olympic legend to boot

Freezer jolly good fellow.

Not content with simply supporting UK Athletics domestic series, McCain is eager to get the UK up and active – launching their initiative “Track & Field” - a nationwide campaign that will make athletics more accessible to more people via a series of family-friendly road-shows, Track & Field Days and athletics club sessions.

Sally forth

Final potato related pun, we promise. The Track & Field Days will be hosted by Olympic champion Sally Gunnell whose biggest rival for World and Olympic titles was none other than the American athlete Sandra FARMER Patrick.

And finally…

Sally is a big supporter of the initiative and says: “I believe in balancing an active lifestyle with enjoying good food.  As a busy mum with three growing boys, I know all about the pressures that parents face in getting their children to eat healthily and get active and am delighted that McCain has joined forces with UKA to help support them and encourage everyone to get into the sport I love.”
