Youngster Steph Twell (Aldershot, Farnham & District) continues to make athletics headlines as her consistent endurance progression continues at pace.

 

Recently announced as the Waterford Crystal European Athletics Rising Star of 2008, it marks yet another successful year where Twell has taken World Junior 1500m gold, made her Olympic debut and hopes to continue on to take an unprecedented third consecutive European Cross Country title in Belgium this December.

She has also impressed at 3000m, lowering her PB recently to a magnificent 8.50.89 at the age of 19, and has long term plans to step up in distance with 5000m a possibility at either London 2012 or in 2016.

In 1981 Paula Fudge broke the World 5000m record in Norway and enjoyed an impressive career with medals at Commonwealth Games and the European Indoors.
