Diamond Relays Return In 2016

11 December 2015

The Diamond Relays are back in the summer of 2016 at the Stadium in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

On 27 July this year, 230 corporate running teams took part in the inaugural Diamond Relays, organised by British Athletics. The 5x5km relays for male, female and mixed teams will return bigger than ever on Tuesday 19 July 2016, starting and finishing on the world famous track.

Runners of all abilities will take in landmarks such as the Orbit Tower and the Aquatic Centre and will be chip-timed as they pass their gold relay baton from one runner to another. Teams of all standards have already pre-registered for the Diamond Relays, and places are filling quickly. The basic entry price of £400 includes five runners, as well as spectator places to cheer them on as they come sprinting down the home straight in the Stadium.

This year, all runners will get the unique opportunity to run a full lap on the iconic track in London as they complete their 5km loop. In 2015, the largest single company turnout was 21 teams, with banking and financial services, law, retail, energy, construction, engineering, education and leisure sectors all well represented.

Additionally, companies who enter more than ten teams will see their first team home receive a Diamond Relays trophy on the podium in front of their colleagues.

This is a chance to join thousands of others running around the iconic Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Last year’s winning team was the London Marathon Ltd led home by 2012 Olympian Scott Overall in a time of 1:22.39. Who will reign supreme in 2016?

Diamond Relays organiser and runbritain MD Geoff Wightman said: “The Diamond Relays are a unique opportunity for runners of all abilities to race over a 5km loop in such an iconic venue which saw legends created at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.

“After the success of last year’s event which saw brand new runners getting their moment of glory on the world famous track, we know from entries already received that it will be even bigger in 2016. It is also a chance for colleagues, friends and family to watch you in the Stadium at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park so don’t miss out on this popular event.”
