Malcolm Arnold

08 December 2011

On Wednesday Sports Journalist Association Lunch, there was further recognition for Malcolm Arnold as he was awarded the JL Manning Award for Outstanding Contribution to Sport.

Arnold, who believed he was attending the ceremony to see his charge, World 400m hurdles champion Dai Greene receive an award was completely wrong-footed by the honour that was made in front of the industry’s best Sports journalists.

Talking of how 2012 would impact on his athletes’ preparation for the Games next Summer Arnold replied:

“Pressure is something made up by the media, at the end of the day these athletes are built and trained to cope with it. My coaching them towards the Olympic Games is a project for me, regardless of whether it is a home Games, - you strive to work with them towards their performance."

Greene’s gold medal winning performance in Daegu marked Arnold’s estimated  66th major medal won by an athlete he has guided.
