Elevating Athletics - Free Athletics Coaching for Teachers

London 2012 has left athletics with more than just gold medals, iconic images and great memories. The sport has also seen a surge in interest at local athletics clubs, with many clubs receiving over 150 enquires children and adults inspired by our Olympians and Paralympians. Throughout the Games discussion also focused on the quantity, quality and type of school sport available. With politicians being quizzed on school sports funding and policy, it is evident that teachers will have a vital role in inspiring the future Jess Ennis, Mo Farah or Robbie Grabarz.

In preparation for this increased interest in school sports and athletics in general, the Aviva Athletics Academy is providing a number of free Primary and Secondary level ‘Aviva Elevating Athletics’ workshops across the country. The 6-hour workshops, which have received great feedback from all attendees, provides teachers with the fundamental skills and knowledge to deliver athletics in PE lessons. Teachers also come away with an Elevating Athletics resource pack, which give teaching plans, tips and advice across a range of running, jumping and throwing activities.

September has seen a huge increase in attendance on Elevating Athletics workshops, with many courses across the country now full. However if you are a teacher and would like to attend a course or host one in your school, please visit www.uka.org.uk/academy and contact your Home Nation officer.
