28th March 2013

There was a strong representation of British athletes in Dubai for the first event of the IPC Grand Prix Series, which ran from the 21-27 March.

Paralympic T36 100m silver medallist Graeme Ballard was the most experienced name among the GB & NI team, which included a strong contingent of development athletes looking to make their mark. Ballard, a silver medallist over 100m at London 2012, got his season off to a good start as he won the T36 100m in a time of 12.44.There was a world record time for Lee Whiteley (Keith Hunter) in the T35 100m as he clocked 11.60 to take a comfortable victory. The 23 year old also won the T35 200m with a time of 24.79.

15 year old Scott Jones threw a world record of 25.05m to take victory in the F32 discus. With Lee and Scott both being review athletes, their results will not be confirmed as official world records until their classifications have been ratified.
