trio shortlisted for british ethnic sports awards

Paula Dunn, Morgan Lake (coach: Eldon Lake) and Adam Gemili (Steve Fudge) have all been shortlisted at the inaugural British Ethnic Sports Awards.

The awards ceremony will take place next weekend at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry and voting for all the categories closes this weekend.

Paula Dunn, the Paralympic Head Coach has enjoyed considerable success since taking over the reins from predecessor Peter Eriksson in November 2012. The former Commonwealth Games medallist led the GB & NI team to 29 medals before an impressive tally of 52 medals, which included 16 gold. Dunn will go up against Huddersfield Town manager Chris Powell and Boccia coach Sunil Birdy for The FA Coach of the Year Award.

It has also been a breakthrough year for multi eventer Lake, who stormed to heptathlon gold at the World Junior Championships, before going on to win a second gold in the high jump in Eugene, USA. The 17 year old also secured her first international call up for the European Championships in Zurich and will be vying to win the Youth Sport Trust’s Young Sports Person of the Year Award next weekend. 

Former Chelsea FC trainee Gemili has continued his fine transition to the track with European 200m and 4x100m gold, which came two weeks after double silver at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The 21 year old also dipped under the 20 second barrier for the second time in 12 months in the final of the European Championships completing a memorable year for the prestigious sprinter. He will now be looking to get his hands on the Lycamobile Sportsman of the Year Award where he will be joined on a three-person shortlist by cricketer Moeen Ali and British track cyclist Kian Emadi.
