Glasgow AA Metric Miler Meeting, Emirates Arena, 3 January 2015

Laura Muir (coach: Andy Young) started the New Year in fine style as she recorded a new personal best of 8:51.75 in the 3000m at the indoor meeting in Glasgow. The 21 year old, who was competing in a mixed race at the Emirates Arena, moved to second in the UK U23 3000m indoor all-time rankings behind Zola Budd.

The Dundee Hawkshill athlete set a BMC members and all comers’ record indoors and outdoors beating a 14 year old record.

Metaswitch Games, Lee Valley, 3-4 January 2015

Dina Asher-Smith (John Blackie) equalled the 60m indoor world lead with a 7.23 clocking at the Metaswitch Games at Lee Valley. It was an ideal start to the year for the Blackheath and Bromley athlete who also ran 7.25 in the heats.

Surrey Cross Country Championships - Lloyd Park, Croydon, 3 January 2015

European Cross Country junior team member in Bulgaria, Peter Chambers (Mike Fleet) won the junior men’s race on home turf in Croydon.

Paskar Owor triumphed at Lloyd Park for Belgrave Harriers as he pipped Henry Pearce (George Gandy) to the top spot. Georgie Bruinvels (Mick Woods) won the senior women’s race in London ahead of fellow Aldershot Farnham and District athlete Emily Wicks (Keith Donkin).

Middlesex Cross Country Championships, Alexandra Palace, 3 January 2015

Mohamud Aadan (Paul Oppe) of Thames Valley Harriers won the Middlesex county title on Saturday over the 12,000m course. He finished ahead of Richard Philips and GB & NI ultra-distance runner Paul Martelleti who rounded off the podium places.

Staffordshire Cross Country Championships - Aldersely, Wolverhampton, 3 January 2015

European Cross Country Junior Women’s team member Kate Holt (Alan Morris) returned to county cross country with a victory in the senior women’s race in Wolverhampton. The City of Stoke athlete finished in 20th in Samokov last month and returned with a convincing win.

Warwickshire and Worcestershire Cross Country – Cofton Park, Birmingham, 3 January 2015

Nicola Sykes continued her good form at Cofton Park with another convincing county level victory. Jack Gray (Nick Price) representing BRAT took the senior men’s title ahead of Toby Spencer (of Coventry Godiva.

Sussex Cross Country Championships - Bexhill, 3 January 2015

Grace Baker (Mick Woods) won the senior women’s race for Aldershot Farnham and District in the county championships with Jon Pepper (Jon Bigg) taking the senior men’s title for Brighton Phoenix.

Merseyside Cross Country Championships – Sherdley Park, St Helens, 3 January 2015

GB & NI junior Matthew Shirling (Adrian Webb), returned from injury to win the junior men’s title on Merseyside for Liverpool Harriers.

Leicestershire and Rutland Cross Country Championships – Cosby, 3 January 2015

Amy Griffiths (Mick Woods) who finished in fifth place in the European Cross Country junior women’s race in Bulgaria last month continued her good form with victory over the muddy course in Cosby to win the junior women’s race.

Kent Cross Country Championships – Hythe, 3 January 2015

Abel Tsegay (Peter Mullervy) who won the U17/U20 men’s race at the Liverpool Cross Challenge event in November raced to a convincing won in Hythe to take the junior men’s title at the Kent championships. He finished ahead of Tonbridge athletes, George Duggan (Peter Brenchley) and GB & NI mountain runner, Maximilian Nicholls (Brenchley/Stella Bandu).

Greater Manchester Cross Country Championships – Bogart Hole Clough, 3 January 2015

2013 GB & NI 3000m European indoor finalist Lauren Howarth was back in action, winning the Greater Manchester county title on Saturday with a controlled performance.

Essex Cross Country Championships – Woodford, 3 January 2015

Alex Short (Lisa Pickering) won narrowly ahead of Alex Cornwell (Philip Townsend) to win the Essex country title in Woodford. Gemma Kersey (Eamonn Martin) won the senior women’s race for Basildon in a time of 31:31.

Hertfordshire Cross Country championships –St Alban’s, 4 January 2015

Rachel Felton who finished in third at the Leeds Abbey Dash last November in a new personal best transferred her good road form into victory over cross country in St Alban’s, with Nielson Hall winning the men's race.
