NORTHERN ATHLETICS U17/U20/SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS EIS,  – 17-18 JANUARY

Adam Hague (coach: Trevor Fox) set a new UK all-time junior record in the pole vault this weekend with a jump of 5.51m. This height won the U20 title in sheffield but he continued his impressive form by returning the following day to compete in the senior men’s pole vault final and win with a jump of 5.45m to show his good consistency in recent months.

Katarina Johnson-Thompson (Mike Holmes) began her season with two wins in Sheffield over the 60m hurdles and the long jump. The British heptathlon star missed the second half of last season due to injury but opened up the year with an 8.40 clocking in the hurdles, and a 6.63m leap in the long jump.

Futures athlete Thomas Somers (Geoffrey Barraclough) recorded a personal best in the 60m to start his season in the same manner that he finished last year. The York athlete was also triumphant in the 200m where he won convincingly, by over a second in a time of 21.29
