IPC Athletics announces 16 events to take place at this summer’s Grand Prix Final, which takes places as part of the London Anniversary Games on 22-23 July

The track and field events which will make up the competition programme for this summer’s IPC Athletics Grand Prix Final were announced on Wednesday 6 April.

The IPC Athletics Grand Prix Final takes place in conjunction with the London Anniversary Games, organised by British Athletics, and for the first time the para-athletics events will take place alongside the prestigious IAAF Diamond League programme.

Around 130 para-athletes are expected to take part in the meeting on Friday 22 and Saturday 23 July at the Olympic Park in the British capital, in what will be the last major competition before September’s Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

A total of 16 para-athletics events (listed below) will take place at the IPC Athletics Grand Prix Final. The event marks the end to the 2016 IPC Athletics Grand Prix series which kicked off in Canberra, Australia in February, and includes nine Grand Prix across five continents.

Ryan Montgomery, Director of IPC Summer Sports, said: “We are delighted that world class para-athletics will once again return to London, and to such an iconic venue as the Olympic Park. The IPC Athletics Grand Prix Final always provides an outstanding climax to the series and this year should be no different.

“I’m sure we can expect to see a host of thrilling performances as many of the world’s best para-athletes gear up for Rio 2016.

“The event will provide many of our global stars with a vital opportunity to showcase their talents and fine tune their preparations, so I have little doubt the crowds will be kept thoroughly entertained.

“Of course, it is also a vital chance for athletes to find out a little more about what they can expect when the Olympic Park stages the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships.”
