COACH

Following UK Athletics’ COACH exhibition launch last Wednesday, 10 images have this evening been presented to Croydon Clocktower ahead of a public exhibition opening from tomorrow (November 2) through to November 11.

Held in conjunction with Black History Month, last Wednesday’s (October 25) exclusive COACH exhibition focused on celebrating Black History Month via the delivery of a black and white photographic exhibition, with the long-term goal of continuing to inspire the next generation to get into athletics for years to come.

In recognition of the contribution of past and present Black and Asian athletics coaches in the UK from grass roots to elite level, the exhibition showcased a host of coaches who were athletes themselves and are passionate about sharing their experiences and expertise with emerging athletics stars in the UK.

On the opening of the public exhibition, UK Athletics Vice-President and Equality, Diversity and Engagement Lead Donna Fraser said:

“After the success of last Wednesday’s COACH exhibition - and as a Croydon Harrier through and through in my competitive days - it is with great pride that we at UK Athletics pass over 10  images to Croydon Clocktower for the public to be able to view between November 2-11.

“It was a great pleasure to witness such a huge turnout last Wednesday for the unveiling of the images, and I am sure the images will now continue their journey of inspiring communities to get involved in athletics, be it as a participant, coach, official or volunteer.”

Following last week’s exhibition launch, a number of featured coaches shared their thoughts on the back of the project and evening, Mark Lancaster saying:

“To be recognised and appreciated by your peers for the work you do is all we ever want as humans. I am humbled and at the same time been given a renewed sense of purpose to continue to help my charges achieve their goals.”

Elsewhere, fellow featured coach Lorna Boothe said:

“A big thank you; it was a special evening and very well presented – please thank the team behind the exhibition for their work.”

Following the conclusion of the 10 day public display in Croydon, a small collection of images will be displayed at Hackney Central Library from Dec 10-22, before then moving to Dalston CLR James Library from January 8 through to March 23 2018.

Further dates and locations of where pieces from the COACH’ exhibition are to be displayed will be shared on the UK Athletics website when confirmed.
