Penny Avis

23 November 2017

UK Athletics has today announced the appointment of Penny Avis as Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Audit Committee.

Penny joins UK Athletics as a dedicated Non-Executive Director who notably was a former Deloitte Corporate Finance Partner and sat on their UK board. She is a qualified accountant and currently holds a portfolio of Non-Executive Director roles at Howard Kennedy, Cifas, Equitable Life and Envestors, bringing a vast amount of knowledge and experience from other sectors to the role at UKA.

She has a lifelong interest in sport as both a fan and a participant, having played field hockey, golf and been a fitness enthusiast from a young age. Alongside her support of athletics, she sits on the board at Cobham Sports Association, working at the grassroots level of a variety of sports to over 1200 members.

Penny Avis commented on her appointment:

“I have been actively involved in grassroots sport throughout my life, so I am delighted to be joining UK Athletics at this time. It is a role that interested me from the moment I heard about it, having watched both of the World Championships this summer and seeing some great athletics in recent years as part of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

Chair of UK Athletics, Richard Bowker, commented on the appointment:

“I am delighted to welcome Penny to the Board of UK Athletics. She brings a vast amount of experience and knowledge to the Board and offers significant expertise to the role as Chair of the Audit Committee.

“It is an incredibly exciting time to join UK Athletics with the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham on the horizon, as well as the European Indoor Championships to be held in Glasgow in 2019. We are looking forward to Penny joining the team as we plan an exciting future ahead.”
