World Heptathlon Champion Jessica Ennis who is in Glasgow to promote the Aviva International Match at Kelvin Hall on 30th January 2010, is today announced as team captain for the GB and NI team at the first of UKA’s 2010 indoor season events.
Ennis, the new star of British athletics following her gold medal performance at the IAAF World Championships this August, loves competing in Scotland and set two personal bests last time she competed in Glasgow in 2008.
Ennis was honoured to be selected to lead out the team next month:
“I’ve never done anything like this before, it will be a great honour and I am looking forward to it. My training is going well, I am done a lot of conditioning work at the moment, I will be fresh for January and ready to lead the team out. I better practice my speechmaking though!
I love competing in Glasgow, it’s an intense venue, very noisy so I hope the crowd will urge me to a winning start as captain.”
The four other international teams to take part alongside Jessica Ennis and the GB and NI Team in the Aviva International Match will be announced soon.
Tickets for the Aviva International Match, Kelvin Hall on January 30 can be bought online now at www.uka.org.uk or by phone on 0800055 60 56.
