Helen Clitheroe followed up on her recent win at the Aviva International Match in Glasgow with another 1500m victory in 4:10.29 over Angelika Cichocka (Poland) 4:10.54. In a change to her usual 3000m steeple chase event, the North West based athlete has joined new coach Trevor Painter and given her career a boost.
'I needed a change, was just fed up with it all and really felt that at my age there was no point in continuing competing if I wasn't enjoying it," Clitheroe Said.
Now Clitheroe, after clocking four minutes 10.29 seconds which battered the qualifying standard for next month's World Indoor Championships, is looking forward to competing in Doha.
Clitheroe will now challenge for a place in the British team at that distance for the championships in Doha from March 12-14.
"Now though I've decided I'll stick with the 1500m and run at the trials in Sheffield (February 13-14) to stake a claim,"
"I'm confident that I can chip away from the time I ran tonight," she said after the race.
Also competing in Germany were Sarah Claxton, who finished in sixth place in her heat of the 60m hurdles clocking 8.29, and Steve Lewis, who finished in eigth place in the pole vault with a 5.40m clearance.
