GB’s top wheelchair racers have been out in force competing this week, with a selection of great results in Switzerland.

Jona Meeting, Switzerland 23 June 2009

19 year old Mickey Bushell continued his fine form following his World Record set last week taking a double victory in the Men’s T53 100m in 15 secs flat, and the men’s T53 200m in 27.68. Over the longer sprint of 400m he was a creditable 3rd in 55.62 behind Australian Richard Coleman and France’s Pierre Fairbank.

In the women’s T54, Shelly Woods took an impressive endurance hat-trick with wins over 800m, 1500m and 5000m, beating Paralympic rival Diane Roy over the 1500m and 5000m.

David Weir set a middle distance double over 800m and 1500m in the men’s T54 category, the same events where he triumphed in the Bird's Nest last September. He clocked 1:35.75 in the 800m ahead of Switzerland's Marcel Hug and pulled clear to record 3:06.25 in the 1500m.

Anne Wafula Strike took third in the women’s T54 200m, and Brian Alldis best position was 8th in the men’s T54 5000m.

Swiss Open 20-21 June 2009

Mickey Bushell clocked up more great races with 2nd in the men’s T53 100m and 6th over the 200m. Brian Alldis dropped down to the T54 400m and took 15th position, as well as 12th over 800m and 6th in a quality 1500m race.
