Athletes heading to Bompas, France for the Combined Events International to be held on 6-7 March will hope to consolidate recent form shown during the indoor season with top performances on the global stage.
Senior women’s team representative Jessica Taylor (Chris Bartram) got recent competition practise at the Reebok Manchester Open Meeting recording wins in the 60m hurdles, long jump and shot. While men’s senior athlete Matthew George (Greg Richards, Egryn Jones & Carolyn Franks) has recorded no less than four personal bests so far in 2010 including a new heptathlon best of 4891.
Indoor outings at the McCain City Challenge series by World Youth gold medallist Katarina Johnson Thompson (Mike Holmes) and Alice Lennox (Greg Richards), who finished first and second respectively, bode well for the U20 women’s team.
Experienced multi-eventer Lucy Boggis (Julie Hollman) is replaced by Karla Drew (Ruth Godbeer) while youngster John McCafferty (Alan Pettigrew) steps in for Jack Andrew (Chris Bartram, Matt Cullen & Neil Donovand).
Olympic decathlete Daniel Awde is yet to compete this year but has been hard at work training at UKA’s National Performance Centre Lee Valley with coach Greg Richards.
Competition highlights will be shown on www.uka.org.uk on Monday 8 March.
