Young Leaders Camp 2009

22 April 2010

The UKA backed Young Leaders Camp has received prestigious recognition from LOCOG, in the form of the much sought after Inspire Mark.

The Camp -aimed at 16-19 year olds, and was developed 2 years ago by UKA in partnership with England Netball , English Gymnastics and Rugby Football Union to empower young leaders in sports associations up and down the country, through developing their leadership skills and giving them practical tools to adopt and employ in their volunteer roles within local areas.

The Inspire mark was devised by 2012 in recognition of projects and events that are: inspired by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, well planned and managed, fully funded from non-commercial sources and likely to achieve at least one key 2012 outcome such as increased participation in grass roots sports.

UKA Senior Competitions Coordinator and Young Leaders Camp Project Manager, Stuart Attwell commented on the effect that the prestigious award will have on the project;

"The award of the London 2012 Inspire Mark clearly demonstrates the strength of the Young Leaders Camp programme, and illustrates the commitment that UKA is showing in supporting the development of young officials, coaches and administrators within the sport.

“Together with our delivery partners, England Netball and Gymnastics England, we are looking forward to building on the success of the Young Leaders Camp, to inspire, motivate and develop even more talented young leaders and volunteers"

The Young Leaders Camp is a four day residential camp, consisting of sports specific and leadership workshops and activities.  Places are offered to 50 individuals from each sport (athletics, gymnastics and netball), and is free for leaders to attend. The first camp took place in 2008 at Bradfield College in Reading, and returns to Reading in 2010 for its third edition.

Applications for the Young Leaders Camp 2010 are being accepted now.
