Mo Farah (Newham & Essex Beagles) continued a great season by taking third place over 3,000m in Zagreb, Croatia on Thursday night, 31 August. Smashing his personal best he clocked 7:38.15 to beat reigning 5,000m World Champion Ben Limo, who is based in Teddington, into fifth place in the Hanzekovis Memorial meeting.

Farah moved into contention at the 2K mark in 5:06 and took the lead when the pace slowed and led until 200m to go, when Kenyans Shadrack Korir and Joseph Ebuya came through strongly to take first and second place. Farah held on for a fine third place, well clear of Ben Limo (Kenya) and Ivan Hierro (Spain) who finished fourth. The race was won by Korir in 7:37.50.

Farah said: “I’m really pleased, I knew I was in PB shape and the conditions were good. It is a good feeling to take seven seconds off my PB. I have some more races planned, possibly on the track it depends if a suitable opportunity arises.”
