  • European Championships 10,000m gold, Munich 2002

  • Commonwealth Games 5000m gold, Manchester 2002

  • World Cross Country Championships gold, Ostend 2001 and Dublin 2002

  • World Cross Country Championships silver, Turin 1997, Marrakech 1998 and Ostend 2001 (short race)

  • World Cross Country Championships bronze, Belfast 1999

  • European Cross Country Championships gold, Ferrara 1998 and Edinburgh 2003

  • World Half Marathon Championships gold, Veracruz 2000, Bristol 2001 and Vilamoura 2003


She was awarded an MBE in June 2002 and was named BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2002.

She sits on the IAAF Athletes Commission and the WHO Commission on ending childhood obesity and has advised IOC commissions from the athlete perspective.

She also works as a BBC athletics commentator and pundit and is a mentor for British endurance athletes.
