Athletics in the UK received a further positive endorsement with the re-election of all the British candidates for positions within the IAAF Council and Committees yesterday.

The votes – held as part of the IAAF congress in the run-up to the World Championships – mean that the UK continues to have a strong presence in the administration of World Athletics.

UK Results from the elections were as follows:

  • Vice Presidents: Seb Coe 169 votes - elected

  • Cross Country committee: David Bedford 120 votes - elected

  • Technical Committee: David Littlewood 98 votes - elected

  • Race Walking Committee: Peter Marlow 74 votes - elected

  • Masters Committee: Bridget Cushen 112 votes - elected

UKA Chair Ed Warner, attending the Congress said:

“This has been a constructive and successful week for UK Athletics. Re-election of our representatives on the IAAF Council and Committees ensures that we continue to play a significant role in the worldwide strategy for athletics going forward.

“The IAAF unveiled its World Plan for athletics this week and it underlines the excellent work that has been undertaken to develop the profile of the sport in the last eight years – UKA continues to play its part in this process and in bidding for the 2017 World Championships we would hope to play an even bigger part over the next six years.

“With the World championships starting tomorrow – the ultimate showcase for the sport of athletics – and the UK submitting their 2017 bid next week, it is a superb time for us to once again underline our commitment to the worldwide profile of athletics and these re-elections reflect this.”
