London Grand Prix 2011

02 May 2012

Reigning World and European 5,000m champion, Mo Farah (Alberto Salazar), today confirmed that he will use the 5000m at the Aviva London Grand Prix on 13 July, as a crucial part of his preparation for this summer’s Olympic Games.

Last year, Farah stormed to victory in the 3000m on the Friday night of the Samsung Diamond League meet to a rousing standing ovation, with a time of 7:40.15.

Farah, who currently trains in Portland, Oregan, is looking forward to returning to London for his last meet in Britain before the Olympic Games,

“It’s nice to race back home as I miss London and it’s not until you’re back you realise how much you miss it.

“At Crystal Palace we always get a great crowd and I’m really looking forward to competing on home soil before the Olympics. I think home support really gives British athletes an edge over our rivals, and that support will not only make a massive difference to us at Crystal Palace but also at the Games.

“The London Grand Prix is always one of the most exciting events on the Diamond League circuit. As it’s over two days, it always attracts the best athletes so it’s a great way to prepare for the summer ahead.”

Farah enjoyed an eventful winter season. Shortly after setting a new British and European indoor record over two miles at the Aviva Grand Prix in February, Farah narrowly missed out on a medal in the 3000m at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul.

But for Farah, the indoor season has been an important part of his preparation for the summer,

“Things are going well. I’ve had a good winter racing different distances to build up my speed and I’m feeling good going into the summer. I’m definitely where I need to be but there is still a lot of work to be done before August.”

Undoubtedly 2012 will not only be one of the most memorable years of his career but with wife Tanya expecting twins in September, it’s not only the Olympics he has to think about over the next few months. But Farah remains focused on his running,

“It’s an exciting year for me and my family, so I’ve just got to keep my feet on the ground and continue doing what I’m doing. It’s an amazing year for British sport and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”

Mo Farah will run the 5000m on Friday 13 July at the Aviva London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace.

Tickets are still available, so back the team and watch the world’s best athletes in action. For further information visit www.uka.org.uk/aviva-series or call 08000 55 60 56. #backtheteam
