Tyrone Edgar

23rd November 2012

2009 4x100m World Championship bronze medallist Tyrone Edgar has this week announced his retirement from athletics. The 30 year old is now pursuing a career in coaching, and has left this message to thank the people that have supported him throughout his career:

After much thought and consideration, I have decided to retire from athletics. I’ve been fortunate enough for the past 13 years to represent my great country, United Kingdom.

I am very blessed to say that I was given a chance to wake up every morning and work at something that I truly love. Athletics has and always will play a big part of my life.

Major setbacks powered me to be even more determined to excel in this sport. Realizing that I was not performing at my very best, I have decided to walk away with my head held high.

Without the support of family, friends, coaches, Nike, and the UKA Lottery Funding, I would not be where I am today. To each of you who has had a hand in my career, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

So, you may be asking what’s next for me? I’m currently a volunteer coach with the University of Texas at Arlington. I’m excited at what the future holds for me. I’m excited because I get to coach kids whose dreams and aspirations were just like mine. I’m looking forward to this next chapter in my life.

Again, thank you to all who helped shaped my career.
