British Athletics is one of four governing bodies in the UK set to work with  Leeds Metropolitan University on research into sporting experience and coaching aspirations among under-represented groups’ with particular reference to Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) groups.

The study, commissioned by Sports Coach UK aims to find out more about the motivations, aspirations and experiences of Black and Minority Ethnic groups and their entry into sport coaching.

Athletics is one of the world’s most diverse sports and British Athletics is keen to hear from you, whatever your experiences, so we can continue to enhance the diversity of our athlete and coaching profile.

If you are interested in contributing to this important project by sharing your experiences, please email Alexandra Rankin A.J.Rankin@Leedsmet.ac.uk or Dr Leanne Norman L.J.Norman@Leedsmet.ac.uk at Leeds Metropolitan University by 31st August 2013.

Those interested will then be contacted to arrange a discussion which will normally last between 30 minutes to an hour.  Identities of those involved will be kept confidential, as all information in the final report will be anonymised.

This project supports British Athletics commitment to the creation and enhancement of an inclusive climate which enables elite success, individual achievement, and a vibrant, attractive and sustainable sport that can captivate both existing and new audiences.

We strive to provide equality and fairness for all and not to discriminate on grounds of age, disability, ethnicity, gender reassignment, marital status or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, religion or belief, sex or gender and sexual orientation. We oppose all forms of direct and indirect discrimination. You valuable contribution to this project will further shape our action plan to improve equality, diversity and inclusion in our sport of athletics.
