Richard Buck

24 October 2013

The city of Sheffield will once again play host to the British Athletics Indoor Championships in 2014.

With just two weeks to go until tickets go on sale for the 2014 British Athletics Series, Yorkshireman Richard Buck (coach: Nick Dakin) went to find out about Sheffield’s industrial past at Kelham Island Museum.

The 2012 world indoor silver 4x400m medallist explored the Steel City’s iconic museum this morning for a guided tour that included finding out about objects, pictures and archive material representing Sheffield’s industrial story.

“The British Athletics Indoor Championships in Sheffield is always an event I look forward to,” said Buck.

“I’ve competed at the event for a number of years. It’s a big event in my calendar and one that’s circled really early on.

“I love competing in Yorkshire. I feel at home in Yorkshire and it relaxes me that little bit more. I always feel like there’s a good support for me and I just like competing close to home because more of my family and friends can come and watch.

“The indoor crowd play a big part for me. When you hear the crowd getting involved it just spurs you on and it gives you that little bit extra.”

The City of York athlete is raring to go for the 2014 season:

“In 2012 I had a really good indoor year and ran 45.61. I think I was ranked eighth in the world so with it being a World Indoor Championships year again I’d like to make that a little bit higher up the rankings. I’d really love to make the world final and push for an individual medal.”

Tickets for the British Athletics Series 2014 go on general sale 7 November. Click here to pre-register NOW.
