17 December 2014

Training partners Asha Philip and James Dasaolu (both coached by Steve Fudge) have confirmed that they will compete at the Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix in Birmingham on 21 February 2015.

Philip, who is currently British champion over 60m indoors and 100m outdoors, is now training with Dasaolu in Loughborough under the guidance of Steve Fudge, and both will compete against world class 60m fields at what is regarded as the best indoor athletics event in the world.

At the 2014 Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix, Dasaolu set a world leading 60m time of 6.47 in the heats, the third fastest time ever by a Brit, before winning the final in a time of 6.50. The 27 year old is excited about returning to the Barclaycard Arena in February to face a field that will also include world indoor 60m champion Richard Kilty.

Dasaolu said: “I can’t wait to compete at the Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix next year. Training is going brilliantly and I believe I’m over my injuries.”

In 2014 Philip won the British 60m title as she ran 7.09, just one hundredth of a second slower than Jeanette Kwakye’s British record, a week before finishing third in an extremely close women’s 60m race at the Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix as she was edged out by two hundredths of a second by Murielle Ahouré and two-time Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

The 24 year old is looking forward to facing what is likely to be another strong international line-up in February. She said: “The Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix is one of my favourite indoor meets. My whole family come to watch me so I’m excited to compete there again next year.”

Double Olympic, world and European champion Mo Farah (Alberto Salazar) has already confirmed that he will compete at the 2015 Sainsbury’s Indoor Grand Prix.
