Adam Gemili Birmingham
30 June 2015

At the Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix on Sunday 7 June Adam Gemili (coach: Steve Fudge) ran 9.97 secs to become the first ever Briton to go under both 10 seconds in the 100m and 20 seconds in the 200m.  After crossing the line the 21-year-old took a fall injuring his right leg, but today said he “hopes to be back and running before the end of the season.”

“I’m slowly but surely recovering,” said Gemili, “I’ve got a good bunch of guys working on me.  I’m not trying to rush things, but if I can get back on the track before the end of the season that is great.  Of course it would be great if I was able to make Beijing, but I do not know if that will be possible yet and I am not going to risk anything.  We have to look at the bigger picture, with the Rio Olympics obviously the main priority.”

Looking back to the moment he became the 100th man in history to break the magical 10 second barrier Gemili added “It’s actually only just now sank in, I’ll always remember the finish unfortunately, but I over committed to the race.  Being the first Brit to go sub-10 and sub-20 is just amazing and it is something I am really proud of achieving.”
