Mountain Running Challenge
8 February 2017

The British Athletics Mountain Running Challenge is back in 2017 as the country’s best athletes over the discipline take on a trio of events to take the domestic honour.

The series will start at the Inter Counties Championships which are confirmed for 13 May 2017 in Broughton, Scotland before taking to the hills of Keswick for the British Athletics Mountain Running Championships which will incorporate the European Mountain Running Championships (Uphill) trials on June 4.

The Challenge will return two weeks later in Sedbergh on Sunday 18 June 2017 where crucial series points and selection for the World Mountain Running Championships (up and down) will be up for grabs. The significance of the event is all the more so as it is also the Senior Home Countries International.

Prize money will be on offer for the first five runners across the finish line in each of the individual races, with an overall series bonus on offer for the top three in the senior men’s and women’s categories.

Sarah Rowell, Mountain Running lead at British Athletics commented on the series:

“I’m once again looking forward to some tense and exciting racing that we have grown accustomed to during this series. We have some of the best mountain runners in the world, so I’m expecting high quality events - particularly with places in British teams at international events on offer, as well as the spice of the home countries battling it out at the Home Countries International.

“I would like to thank all those who work tirelessly to organise these events; it is with their dedication and hard work that we are able to offer races which prepare our British teams for the major championships ahead.”
