10k runners trial

24 April 2009

Up to a dozen British athletes could get the opportunity to race at the European Cup 10,000m races in Ribeira Brava, Madeira on 6 June. UKA will select up to six athletes in the men’s and women’s races provided they meet the selection criteria published at www.uka.org.uk

The annual races, which have been put two months back from their usual April staging, have been identified as a key opportunity for British athletes to compete against international opposition in quality races.

It is also a competitive opportunity for athletes targeting qualifying standards for this summer’s major championships, be it IAAF World Championships, European U23 Championships or European U20 Championships (men’s 10,000m only).

It means there is now a further opportunity for quality 10,000m track races for British athletes following the announcement earlier this month of specially staged races at Birmingham University this weekend and the re-introduction of the 25 lap event to the main Aviva UK Championships & World Trials this year, which will take place at Birmingham on 11-13 July.
