UK Athletics have announced the U20 teams to compete in the International Athletics Gala in Antwerp on 26 August, and the race walking international Geher–Cup at Hildesheim, Germany on 27th August.

Amongst those competing in Antwerp are Emma Pallant and Jessica Sparke – taking their places in the 1500m, whilst Kris Gauson (Belgrave Harriers) and Adam Hickey (Southend) take part in the men’s 1500m and 5000m respectively.

The competitive opportunities in these two events were funded by the Endurance Event Management group and have been provided to junior athletes who have performed to a high standard this summer, but have not qualified for the World Junior Championships.

Spencer Barden, UK Athletics’ Senior coordinator for endurance said:

“The standards for Beijing were high, yet despite these athletes not making the team for the World juniors it is important to recognise the level they are achieving and provide them, where appropriate, international competition opportunities so they too can gain experience from representing Great Britain.”
