Andy Turner Olympics 2008

14th August 2008

Hello from the Olympic village!

I have been here since Tuesday and it's good to be here.  I'm just settling in a finding my feet now. Macau was a good holding camp and it really served its purpose for me. I managed to get some decent training sessions in after the problems I have had this season and it has given me a lot of confidence.

Rubbing Shoulders…

In the village I have seen Tyson Gay, some of big basketball stars from the NBA and Sanya Richards. We have been to a evening with our sponsors where we collect the spikes we will be racing in. Mine are good, but the ones Sanya's been given look supersonic.

Into the Nest
I have been down to the stadium and it looks absolutely fantastic. The track itself is roped off, but I've been inside and you just know it is going to be absolutely amazing when it is full. All the volunteers here have been really helpful. If anything they are almost too helpful! They won't let you even carry a bag. We were having a joke with one of them at the training track earlier. He got on the blocks and was going to do some hurdling, but we thought better of it. It might have been a bit dangerous!

In the village I have a room to myself. Simeon (Williamson) will move in after finishing racing the 100m, until then, he also has a room to himself.

Food for Thought

The food halls are huge…it's like two football pitches. There is also a McDonald's which is free. Not many people are eating there now. But when people have finished competing, it's bound to get busier.  I know I will!
