Hello, Hola, Bonjour…
I would like to welcome you all to my first blog for the UKA website.
Hopefully, you will get an insight into Jeanette Kwakye the person as well as Jeanette Kwakye the athlete…
So who comes first? Jeanette the athlete or the person? To be honest it depends on the day of the week and the time of year.
So right about now, Jeanette the athlete is in full effect. I think maybe I should have an alter ego for my track personality; any name suggestions will be welcome…
The 2009 season has kicked off and to be honest, I am a little bit behind the world’s elite. My 2008/09 winter was quite a strange one for me, but one that showed me that getting to the top is going to be full of obstacles, that I can’t necessarily control.
I suffered from a few niggles and quite a bad knee injury that kept me off the track for a little longer than I would have liked. In fact, possibly the longest time off due to injury in my career to date.
However you will be pleased to know that I am back into full training and I am aiming to be ready in time for the UK Trials and then the big show in Berlin! So any races leading up until then will be quite low key, which is a massive difference from my preparation during 2008.
If my season goes according to plan, I am really looking forward to getting the opportunity to compete for Great Britain again, especially after last year. I also want to compete in the new kit that I had the opportunity of modelling a few weeks ago. I saw a couple of the photos and I think the retouching and airbrushing have flattered me! I almost didn’t recognise myself, considering in my race photos and action shots I look like I’m either being chased or chasing someone!!
I wish all my race photos could be retouched like that… Some of the pictures I find of myself on google pics are dire!!
Anyway… the next time I write to you I hopefully would have competed and have something really positive to report back to you.. but until then, I’m heading back to the big North London cave that is the Lee Valley Athletics Centre!
So until then it is Jeanette – The athlete signing out.
