Prepping for the Summer

Right then, after being told I was not going to have an indoor season (due to Achilles surgery), and then finishing it with a pb, I was left ready to get back to the grind so I can progress in the outdoors.

Usually Loughborough is left pretty dead during the easter break, as most athletes disappear to find some sun for warm weather training. However not the pole vaulters, having got probably the best facilities in the world right on out door step, we found pole vaulters from all over the world coming to train at the hipac in Loughborough, testing out the downhill run way, and the rest of the facilities we have here at Loughborough.

For two weeks, the Danish brought over their jumps squad, which included eight pole vaulters of all different standards, and we also had a greek international pole vaulter who has a personal best of 5.75. It definitely spices things up having so many vaulters in one place, and can make the weeks disappear pretty quickly, as we edge closer to the summer season.

With Martyn in L.A for four weeks I asked my training partner Louise to move in, which has been a blast and found prep 1 finished already and we’re straight into prep two. Training seems to be heading in the right direction, and I feel that I didn’t lose too much from the indoors and hopefully by the time we’ve completed prep two and three we’ll be ready for the summer.

Anyways... until next time

After watching this years Commonwealth games my daughter who is aged 9 and sport mad is wanting to try her hand at pole vaulting we live in Bury Lancashire and was wondering if anyone knows of a good athletics club which I could take her along to. She already has a head for heights ie diving and trampolining to name but a few sports she enjoys.
