What’s been the latest with Perri Shakes-Drayton?

Well I’m either training, at university or trying to catch up with my family and friends (that’s where Facebook helps).

The latest news is that I have been appointed as an ambassador for McCain who are in partnership with UKA. They aim to make people aware of the grassroots level of athletics and provide opportunities for them to get involved at all levels.

My role as an ambassador will be to help advise young people and show them what it takes to be an athlete trying to get to the world-class stage.

I’m currently at Brunel University in Uxbridge studying for a BSc in Sports Science. Now I’m on Easter break, I have three weeks off. When I return to my horror I have to face exams at the beginning of May.

Before I have to face the exams, I am flying out to Philadelphia to take part in the Penn Relays. I will be doing a Medley relay with a few other GB athletes. Exciting!

I have never competed at the Penn Relays before so I do not know what to expect. All I have been told is that there will be a crowd of people. I hope that I can keep myself together and do my best.

I’m pleased to say that training is going well. Being at university and fitting training in has worked out ok. My coach often comes up and at weekends I am always back in my home town of East London, Mile End to train.
