Great Britain’s top decathlete Dean Macey has issued a rallying call to athletes, to encourage them to put pen to paper in advance of this week’s athlete contract deadline.

The Melbourne Gold medallist has also urged those who still have any remaining doubts or questions unanswered following last month’s road show to come forward sooner rather than later.

“If you’ve got a problem or a question you want to discuss then don’t sit in silence,” said Macey.

“Get in touch with your Senior Performance Manager or main point of contact and get it sorted!”

Over half the athletes to receive contracts have signed and returned them to UK Athletics in little over a week, but this Wednesday’s deadline means athletes face a race against time to return their contracts or to notify the administration team of any reason for delay.

Concerns that podium level athletes would reject the agreement appear unfounded with several high profile names signed up already and others confirmed to follow.

Macey revealed he supported the agreements and encouraged others to follow suit:

“I’m signing and sending mine back,” he confirmed.

“If I can get round to doing it the others should get their backsides into gear and put pen to paper,” he added.

“This way, as athletes we know what is expected of us, UK Athletics know what is expected of them and both sides can move forward in a partnership.”
