Jo Pavey (Exeter Harriers) won the women’s race and Mo Farah (Newham and Essex Beagles) produced a sparkling personal best at the BUPA Great Manchester Run on Sunday 20 May.

Pavey, who plans to forge a road-running career after she has fulfilled her track potential, took control of the race in the last kilometre of the 10km race and the tactic paid off as she triumphed in 31 minutes 47 seconds.

She finished one second ahead of Aniko Kalovics (Hungary) with Rita JepToo (Kenya) third in 31:50.

The men’s race featured a UK all-comers’ record of 27:21 by 20-year-old Micah Kogo (Kenya). It took four seconds off Haile Gebreselassie's previous best.

Kogo, who was the world's fastest 10,000m runner on the track last summer, forged ahead of last year’s winner Zersenay Tadesse (Eritrea), who also broke the previous best by clocking 27:24.

UK No.1 Farah put in an excellent display to take third position in a personal best time of 28:07, the fastest by a Briton since 1996.
