The super seventh place earned by Under 23 Aine Hoban (Wakefield and District Harriers) at the NCAA Division I Championships has been noted by the Norwich Union Great Britain and Northern Ireland selectors of the team for the SPAR European Cross Country Championships to be staged in San Giorgio su Legnano, Italy, on Sunday 10 December.

The selectors will meet after trials, which are incorporated in the UK Cross Challenge meeting in Liverpool on Saturday 25 November to select Seniors, Under 23s and Under 20s. They have already pre-selected Peter Riley (Leigh Harriers) for the Senior Men’s Team, Hayley Yelling (Windsor, Slough, Eton and Hounslow AC) and Jo Pavey (Exeter Harriers) for the Senior Women’s Team and Sian Edwards (Kettering Town Harriers) for the Junior Women’s Team.

Hoban, a member of the Norwich Union GB Junior Women’s Team that won Gold medals at the 2003 European Cross Country Championships in Edinburgh, was impressive over a muddy course at the Indiana State University on Monday 20 November. Running for Providence University, she covered the 6km in 21 minutes 5 seconds to take seventh place in the National Collegiate Championship. Sally Kipyego (Texas Tech) won in 20:12.
