It was a quiet morning for the British contingent on day six of the IPC Athletics World Championships in Doha.

However, Mo Jomni (coach: Jenny Archer) was in sparkling form as he successfully secured his place in the T53 400m final courtesy of a second place finish in the first of three semi-finals. The 26 year old, who won T53 200m bronze two days ago, showed his intent by finishing in 52.72 behind France’s 13-time global medallist Pierre Fairbank.  

Jomni said: I’m delighted with that – the bronze medal was a bit of a boost, but I knew I had to put my head down make the top two and get into the final. It’s only going to get tougher and tougher, but my eyes are on a medal. If I medal for the second time that would make my year. I’m not settling for less.

“I kind of made it easier (to focus after winning bronze) and at the same time made me sharper and more focused. I spoke to my coach (Jenny Archer) and she said sleep on it enjoy the bronze, but you’ve still got a lot of work to do. To make it to the final is absolutely amazing.”  

Richard Chiassaro (Jenni Banks) bought his campaign in Doha to an end with a seventh place finish in the semi-finals of the T54 400m. The 33 year old, who posted a time of 51.41 was in reflective mood after the race.

“Even sitting on the line waiting was hard (commenting on heat). The field that I was up against were excellent pushers, so I got the result I expected in this event.

“It’s about learning to deal with the pressure of being on the line with the best in the world. I only get to race a couple of them a competitions, so to have the full line-up is a huge experience for me.

“I’m glad it was now rather than in Rio. I know what I need to work on – I’ve got 10/11 months now and I’ll be ready.”
