O'HARE LOWERS SCOTTISH RECORD ON GOOD NIGHT FOR BRITS IN BOSTON

Chris O’Hare lowered his own Scottish record on the way to victory at the latest World Indoor Tour leg in Boston as a host of Brits hit qualifying standards for next month’s global gathering.

O’Hare arrived in Boston in shape to challenge his Scottish 1500m indoor mark of 3:37.25 minutes having become the first British man to win the Wanamaker Mile in New York for over 50 years.

And he duly delivered in style, winning a sprint finish against fellow Scot Jake Wightman to clock 3:37.03 – the pair four seconds ahead of American Garrett Heath in third.

Wightman might not have been able to get past O’Hare on the home straight but he still had reason to be happy as his time of 3:37.43 gave him the 1500m standard for the World Championships.

That was to be the case for three other Brits on a good night in Boston with Sarah McDonald in the women’s 1500m and Steph Twell and Jonny Davies in the 3000m all following suit.

Twell, who has enjoyed a good winter season over cross country up until this point, cruised inside the mark, clocking a new indoor personal best of 8:41.94 to place third in the women’s 3000m.

McDonald was also comfortably inside the mark with her fastest ever season opener seeing her record a big personal best of 4:07.62 for fifth place.

Davies has lowered his 3000m personal best by more than four seconds already this season and took almost another six off it in placing sixth in 7:50.18 in Boston.

Meanwhile Lynsey Sharp’s indoor season is building nicely as she pushed her season’s best to 2:02.20 for fourth in the 800m, just 0.20 outside the world indoors standard.

Harry Aikines-Aryeetey went against world record holder Christian Coleman in the 60m and also clocked a season’s best of 6.66 as he chases the world indoor mark of 6.63.
