Lynne Brier

My name is Lynne Brier and I represent Welsh Athletics on the UK members committee. I am a recently retired headteacher and now work part-time as a school inspector, carrying out primary school inspections throughout Wales. This has allowed me more flexibility to attend the gym, pursue my love of walking and travel further afield to watch my son and daughter compete as senior athletes.

My involvement in athletics goes back more than forty years. I was a junior athlete with Swansea Harriers Athletics Club from the age of thirteen and I am now the chairperson of the club. I took my own children to Swansea Harriers in 2006 and soon took an interest in helping to coach the junior athletes. In addition to my coaching responsibilities and my role as club chairperson, I am the senior women’s team manager and one of the club welfare officers. I am also a board member of Welsh Athletics and general Council and try to officiate as part of the photo finish team whenever I have an opportunity. I have a genuine love of athletics, and as a long-retired athlete and parent of two senior athletes, I fully appreciate the work that goes on behind the scenes from staff and volunteers alike, at UK and home countries level. We are all committed to making our sport enjoyable, safe and accessible to all. My competitive days are in the distant past, but I am almost always present at UK Championships, both indoors and outdoors, as well as other competitions around the country.
