MALCOLM TO JOIN ATHLETICS AUSTRALIA

Christian Malcolm is to leave his role as British Athletics’ Technical Lead for Sprint Relays to join Athletics Australia as Head of Performance and Coaching.

Malcolm begun working for British Athletics in March 2015 and will take up his role at Athletics Australia in late January 2019.

During his time with Head of Sprints, Hurdles & Relays Stephen Maguire and Senior National Institute Coach for Hurdles & Sprints Benke Blomkvist, Britain’s men’s and women’s 4x100m relay teams have consistently delivered medals at major championships.

The women’s team won Olympic bronze in Rio in 2016 and silver at the World Championships in London in 2017, where the men’s quartet claimed their first ever global title. Both teams took gold at the European Championships in Berlin this year.

British Athletics Performance Director Neil Black said: “Christian has done a fantastic job as part of our 4x100m relay set up, playing a key role in making the programme one of the best in the world and one that consistently delivers titles and medals at major championships.

“He is a very popular member of the team and that is testament to his character and the knowledge and experience he brought to his role. We are of course sad that Christian is leaving the team but it is brilliant news for him and we are proud to have worked with him. We look forward to seeing him on the circuit.”

Head of Sprints, Hurdles & Relays Maguire and Senior National Institute Coach for Hurdles & Sprints Blomkvist will continue to lead the team while British Athletics will begin recruiting for a third member shortly.
