Long Jump Pb For Thompson
11 July 2009
Katarina Thompson (Liverpool Harriers) cemented herself among the top heptathlon talent in the UK this morning on the fourth day of competition at the World Youth Championships in Bressanone, Italy, with a massive long jump personal best.
The junior athlete executed an impressive leap of 6.31m (-0.6m/s) on her second jump, during the fifth event of the heptathlon. Her first jump of 6.02m (-0.3m/s) was a solid start to the competition. On her final attempt she over stepped the board and recorded a no jump but her best was good enough to secure first place overall and top points.
She will return to competition in the afternoon session, for the javelin and 800m, in first place with 4380 points. Nearly two hundred points clear of her closest rival Kira Biesenbach (GER) on 4181 points.
