Wednesday 1st October is a date that will live long in the memory of promising young walker Ellie Dooley (coach: Andi Drake). The University of Leeds student, competing in the annual Leeds Varsity Match, took part in the mile walk, breaking her own British junior record with a 7.13.5 time.

Last year, Dooley lowered the record to 7.20.4, but sliced almost seven seconds off that time this year. That performance by the youngster, who has been in good form that includes English Schools victory last month, moves her up to fourth on the UK All Time List. The future certainly looks bright for Dooley, who is one of number of walkers progressing well in Leeds under Drake’s guidance.
