PERFORMANCE DIECTORATE

The Performance Directorate is responsible for delivering the UKA performance and talent system, focussing not only on the talented athletes who will represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland in this cycle but those who will in the future.  To this end, it has responsibility for ensuring a seamless system with those responsible for home country performance and talent programmes. This involves working closely with others in the high performance and talent system across the UK, including coaches and other specialists.

The integrated team incorporates the head coaches and pathway managers for both Olympic and Paralympic programmes; head of performance support with responsibility for science, medicine and therapy; head of performance programmes responsible for training and competition logistics.  In addition to the successful delivery of the UK Sport funded World Class Performance programme, there are other programmes that align with and underpin it, as well as non-Olympic/Paralympic athletics events.

The initial focus is delivering success at the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics in Paris (success will be defined by medals/finalists/personal best performances). This will involve programme management and ensuring connectivity across the whole HPS, which incorporates: The World Class Programme (WCP); High Performance Management; selection of GB&NI Teams; and Talent Pathways.

The directorate will oversee the governance of GB&NI team selection for major championships such as:

  • Olympic & Paralympic Games;
  • World Athletics Championships (Able-bodied and Paralympic. Age groups to seniors);
  • European Athletics Championships (Able-bodied and Paralympic. Age groups to seniors);
  • European Team Championships.
