The Norwich Union GB & NI team began the second day of competition in Valencia in high spirits following yesterday’s medal successes and continued its run of good form with qualification in the men’s and women’s 60m hurdles.

Allan Scott (Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers) progressed through to the semi- final of the 60m hurdles. The Scot easily qualified with 7.64, the fastest time of the heats.

Sarah Claxton (Woodford Green & Essex Ladies) qualified for the next round of competition in the highly competitive women’s event. She went through as one of two fastest losers with 8.12.

Steve Lewis (Newham & Essex Beagles) failed to qualify for the pole vault final. After clearing 5.35m he strategically decided to skip 5.45m and jump for 5.55m, at which he fell short with all three attempts.

Jemma Simpson (Newquay & Par) and Susan Scott (Victoria Park) both fell short of qualification in the 1500m.

Simpson ran a personal best of 4:11:17, which should see her on track for summer competition. Scott was one place away from progressing with her 4:10:39 effort.
