53 GB JUNIORS SET FOR MANCHESTER INTERNATIONAL

European under-20 double gold medallist Isabelle Boffey (Coach: Luke Gunn; Club: Enfield & Haringey) and European T38 100m and 200m champion Thomas Young (Joe McDonnell; Charnwood) are set to headline the 53-strong British Junior team at the Manchester International on Wednesday 14th August.

European Under-20 800m leader Boffey arrives in Manchester after clocking a personal best time of 2:02.92 in Sweden last month to win the European U20 Championships, before going on to claim her second gold in the 4x400m relay and will be competing in both events in Manchester.

She will be joined by Thomas Young in dreaming of a place on the podium. Last year saw the 19-year-old break onto the para athletics scene by claiming two European titles in the T38 100m and 200m in Berlin.

This season has seen him run almost four-tenths quicker than his 2018 personal best and is ranked third fastest in the world in the T38 category.

World Para Junior finalist India Oates (Darlington Harriers) will also be up against the world record holder, Sophie Hahn (Leon Baptiste; Charnwood), in the female equivalent.

Joel Pascall-Menzie (Newham & Essex Beagles) will fight for the podium in the 100m. He became English Schools champion with a time of 10.48s earlier in the season which placed him fourth in the British U17 all-time rankings. Andy Robertson (Sale Harriers Manchester), who will be competing for the British Athletics League/UK Women’s League team, has the quickest personal best of 10.17s.

Oliver Dustin (Graeme Mason; Border) returns to action off the back of his maiden European U20 title, clinching an amazing 800m final at the European U20s where he led a British one-two-three, with hopes to win against athletes from Scotland, Wales, England, Northern Ireland BAL/UKWAL as well as guests.

T20 athlete Prince Reid (David Liston; Blackheath & Bromley) will also be running in the 1500m and looks to continue his good form coming off a bronze medal winning performance at the World Para Juniors earlier this month.

The mile will see this season’s UK number twos for the under 20 and under 23 1500m go head-to-head, with GB Junior’s Erin Wallace (Andy Young; Giffnock North) facing the 21-year-old Aimee Pratt (Vincente Modahl; Sale Harriers Manchester).

Seamus Derbyshire (Nick Dakin; City of Stoke), who took silver in the 400m hurdles at the European under-20s, will contest the event once again, alongside earning himself a spot in the men’s 4x400m relay team.

The European under-20 finalist, Marcey Winter (Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow), will be competing in the female equivalent against Olympic semi-finalist Noelle Montcalm and her Canadian teammate Kelsey Balkwill.

In the javelin, English Schools Champion and UK number three Tom Hewson (Mark Bradford; Andover) will be competing for the win. The 18-year-old has thrown a personal best of 70.80m this season and is looking on good form to go for a victory following his appearance at the European Team Championships last weekend.

Youngster Shaun Kerry (Dave Smith; Kingston upon Hull) will be up against the World University Games bronze medallist Taylor Campbell (John Pearson; Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow) in the hammer throw.

European U23 fourth placer Divine Olapido (John Hillier; Blackheath & Bromley) will feature in the shot put with the strongest personal best of 17.37m. She will also compete in the discus for the British Athletics League/UK Women’s League team where Olapido will meet UK number two, Amy Holder (Neville Thompson; Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow).

The Manchester International is a team competition, pitting teams from Great Britain & Northern Ireland juniors, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and British Athletics League/UK Women’s Athletics League.
