ALDERSHOT FARNHAM & DISTRICT AND CENTRAL ALL SET FOR ECCC CROSS COUNTRY

Aldershot Farnham and District and Central AC will represent British clubs at the European Champion Clubs Cup Cross Country which is taking place in Oeiras in Portugal on Sunday 6 February.

After qualifying at last November’s trial event in Liverpool, AFD will compete in both the senior women’s and senior mixed relay events, while Central AC will take their place in the senior men’s race.

The ECCC Cross Country sees clubs from across the continent come together to compete for the European clubs crown. The competition will be held for the first time since 2019 following postponements due to Covid-19.

The senior women’s contest kicks off the programme at 10:25 (GMT) and Tokyo Olympian Steph Twell is included in the team of six which also sees Niamh Brown (Tim Eglen), who finished second in the South of England Championships last weekend, also in the squad. Lauren Hall (Eglen), Katie Hughes (Craig Winrow), Louise Small (Mick Woods) and Emily Wicks (Keith Donkin) complete the team who will be racing over the 6400m course.

Scottish club, Central AC will star in the senior men’s race which starts at 11:05 (GMT) on Sunday. Jamie Crowe (Derek Easton) leads the way in the quintet – he was a member of the British team at the recent European Cross Country Championships.

He’ll be joined by Luca Fanottoli, Tom Graham-Marr (Michael Wright), Alastair Hay and Cameron Milne in a strong field at the championships.

The senior mixed relay closes the programme and Aldershot Farnham and District will put out a solid team to contest with some of Europe’s best.

Lilly Coward (Craig Winrow), Ellis Cross (Mick Woods), Harvey Nixon, Amy Griffiths (Luke Gunn), Ricky Harvie (Tim Eglen) and Nancy Scott (Philip O’Dell) make up the team, of which four will race on the day.
