Following widely-publicised comments by Andrew Butchart on a podcast regarding the alleged faking of Covid tests, he was charged with misconduct by UK Athletics for making statements likely to bring athletics into disrepute.

As per our disciplinary processes UK Athletics appointed an Independent Disciplinary Committee for this hearing.

On 10 July 2021, this Independent Disciplinary Committee of UKA held the charge to be proven.

By way of sanction, the Disciplinary Committee issued Mr Butchart with:

(i) A 12-month suspension from athletics (suspended for a period of 24 months);
(ii) A £5,000 fine;
(iii) A warning as to his future conduct; and
(iv) An order to provide a public written apology to UKA.
