It was a day to remember for Richard Chiassaro (coach: Jenni Banks) who lowered his own European record in the T54 400m, going sub 45 seconds for the first time in his career, at the Daniela Jutzeler Memorial in Nottwil, Switzerland.

Chiassaro – who set a time of 45.26 only on Sunday –  pushed excellently to go to 44.39 in near perfect racing conditions. It is unofficially the second fastest time ever which shows the true class of the performance.

He also recorded a lifetime best in the 800m, taking victory overall in 1:32.18. Pushing in lane two, he powered passed Marcel Hug at the start of the final lap and held off him and Daniel Romanchuk to secure a notable win in Switzerland.

He also just missed out on a PB over 200m, recording 24.56.

Elsewhere, Hannah Cockroft (Banks) continued her strong form with times of 17.59 (+1.0), 59.36 and 1:58.67 in the T34 100m, 400m and 800m, to demonstrate consistency across the day, and her whole Swiss series so far.

Nathan Maguire (Ste Hoskins) matched his personal best in the T54 200m – 25.59 – set last week. He also returned to the track for the 400m where he crossed the line fourth in 46.86.

Multiple global medallist Richard Whitehead (Keith Antoine) opened his 2018 season with a 24.48 (+0.3) over 200m in the redefined T61 classification. With the Europeans on the horizon later this summer, the Switzerland series provides the perfect opportunity to find early season form.

Ben Rowlings (Ian Mirfin) took victory in the T34 400m competition with a time of 52.11, while earlier recording 28.74 over 200m.
