Anti-doping Violation Announcement For Race Walking Athlete

Lisa Kehler (Wolverhampton & Bilston AC) provided a sample at the EAA Carnegie Grand Prix of Race Walking at Leeds on 7 July 2007. The analysis of the sample identified the presence of terbutaline, included in S3 of the list as a Beta-2 agonist. Terbutaline is included as a specified substance on the 2007 WADA Prohibited List.

Lisa accepted that the substance was present in her sample due to the use of her asthma inhaler, for which she did not have a valid Therapeutic Use Exemption, and has waived her right to a disciplinary hearing to which she was entitled to under both UK Athletics’ and the IAAF’s Anti-Doping Rules.

UK Athletics’ and the IAAF’s Anti-Doping Rules allow a punishment of a public warning (without a period of ineligibility), and disqualification of the result at the competition where the sample was collected, to be imposed where:

  • the substance is classified as a specified substance on the Prohibited List
  • it is the athlete’s first anti-doping rule violation
  • and where UK Athletics is satisfied that there was no intention to enhance performance

UK Athletics and the IAAF are satisfied that these factors all applied in Lisa Kehler’s case.

UK Athletics hereby issues Lisa Kehler with a public warning for a finding of terbutaline in a sample which was collected from her on 7 July 2007 in Leeds.  UK Athletics confirms that the athlete is disqualified from that competition. No period of ineligibility has been imposed and the athlete is free to compete.
