Application Process For Athletics Academy Of Sporting Excellence Is Now Open

17 September 2018

The application process for the Athletics Academy of Sporting Excellence (AASE) is now open.

The Athletics Academy in Sporting Excellence is a key part of the British Athletics Performance Pathway for young athletes aged between 16 and 18. The pathway programme gives athletes the opportunity to learn and develop the necessary knowledge and skills to progress on to becoming a senior international athlete whilst gaining further qualifications and is designed to support and compliment club training.

Athletes would need to attend the national camps and regional days over a two-year period which include 1:1 days with programme specialists (all work is done on course). The programme workshops will be held at regional hubs (Loughborough, Bath, Manchester, Birmingham, Gateshead, London/SE) and on suitable dates to avoid competition clashes, in school holidays and at weekends. Parents as well as personal coaches will also be invited to attend relevant sessions with their athletes and contribute where appropriate to their athlete’s programme.

Further information on AASE can be found here: https://www.uka.org.uk/performance/olympic-performance-pathway/aase-2018/

To be invited to apply for the programme in 2018-20, athletes must be:

  • D.O.B from 01/09/2001 – 31/08/2002
  • Highly ranked in the 2018 power of 10 rankings

AASE can be taken alongside any education programme that an athlete may currently be taking at school or college (not University).

Athletes identified for the 2018-20 programme will be contacted by British Athletics in September. Please note that places on AASE are limited and early reply is advised to ensure athletes register their interest, as first-come-first-served may apply.
